Next Cladding Refurbishment – Pontefract
Client Brief
We were contacted by a representative of the multinational retailer Next to help with the refurbishment of their Pontefract distribution centre. The project would involve jet washing, stripping existing paint, preparing the cladding and then recoating, so as always, we began with a site visit.
As the building is a live distribution centre with a constant flow of lorries travelling in and out, the project would take extensive planning to minimise operational disruption; this is where the initial site visit proved invaluable. We used this time to not only analyse the cladding and necessary works but also piece together a streamlined plan of action.

What We Did
Liaising closely with site security, lorry marshalls and Next staff at each stage, we successfully completed the project within five weeks. Starting with preparing the surface and surroundings, we jet washed and stripped the cladding of old paint before masking any areas that were not being sprayed, such as lorry bays and capping.
Next, we moved on to respraying. Our operatives used the advanced Graco airless cladding spraying method to recoat the surface in the shade of Goose Wing Grey, utilising Z80 cherry pickers at various phases to seamlessly coat higher elevations.
As mentioned above, meticulous planning played a vital role during this project. We ensured that staff were aware in advance of which loading bays would be closed so that parking could be reallocated, and we worked on a strict schedule to allow bays to reopen as planned.
